Dear YLC alumni and friends:

24 years. Can you imagine following in the footsteps of a legend who filled a role for 24 years? The person who built the foundation of Young Leaders Council! That’s how I have spent my first four months as executive director, trying to learn the people, processes, and history of Young Leaders Council. My head is swimming, but here’s a bit of what I’ve learned so far:

-YLC is one of the most well-respected nonprofit organizations in Middle Tennessee
-YLC’s 2,600 alumni are involved, committed volunteers who make a tangible difference in our community every day
-YLC’s 2019 students are some of the most intelligent and kind humans I’ve ever met
-YLC’s support team, Patty St. Clair and Jamie Weathers, can move mountains
-Diane Hayes was a humble, giving, and wise leader who faithfully stewarded the organization into what it is today
-YLC has a rich history and a bright future

I’d love to know the economic impact YLC has had on the Middle Tennessee community in its 34 year history, but that’s just one of many ways YLC has impacted Nashville. We assist the more than 1,700 nonprofits in our community by providing them with board members who understand and live into their roles and responsibilities, none of which I understood in my previous board service because I had not been trained.

I’m truly honored to following in the footsteps of the great Diane Hayes. Thank you for trusting me and for your continued support of YLC.

Lisa C. Shacklett, MBA
Executive Director
